It’s summer in Santa Cruz, and locally grown strawberries are plentiful. Watsonville and Salinas account for nearly half of California’s strawberry acreage, bringing perfectly ripe berries to our farmers markets and grocery stores.

Strawberries are more than just a sweet summer treat. They are high in antioxidants and packed with vitamins and nutrients. Strawberries are a good source of potassium, manganese and folate, and one cup of strawberries has more vitamin C than an orange. Just remember, strawberries have high pesticide residue, so it’s best to buy organic.
