the FAQ’s

I’m new to The Barre Studio. How do I get started?

First, welcome to The Barre Studio! You can sign up for classes online, by calling or in person. You should arrive 10-15 minutes early for your first class. After you fill out some quick paperwork, your instructor will show you what equipment you need, give a quick introduction to terms you’ll hear during class and answer any questions you may have.

How can I make class reservations?

You can make reservations with our online scheduler, mobile app, by phone or in person.  Drop-in visits are welcome, but priority goes to clients with reservations. Classes have a maximum of 25 students. To guarantee your spot, it’s best to reserve your classes online or through the app. If a class is full, the online reservation system can put you on a waitlist. You will be notified if a spot opens up.

What should I wear?

Barre classes are fitness workouts, so you should wear athletic clothing that is comfortable and allows you to move easily. For women, we recommend long pants, leggings or capris and a top that covers your midriff. Body conscious clothing like tighter leggings and tops can help you and the instructor see your form. Men are typically most comfortable in long shorts.

Do I have to wear grip socks?

Yes. We have a strict “Grip Socks On” policy at The Barre Studio. Socks with tread are required to participate in our classes for safety and hygiene reasons. If you don’t have grip socks, you can purchase a pair in The Barre Studio retail boutique.

What should I bring for class?

We provide all of the equipment for class. You’ll just need your grip socks and a bottle of water.

Can men take barre classes?

Yes.  Men are welcome to take barre classes. Many men use barre as cross training and benefit from the strength and flexibility that results from barre classes.  We will periodically host “Man Up to The Barre” classes, which are fun events focused on introducing men to barre.

Do I need dance experience?

No. Although the class and studio are dance inspired, this is not a dance class. Our instructors are trained to give cues and hands-on adjustments to guide you through the workout.

Do I need to get in shape before I take a barre class?

If you want to get in shape or lose weight, barre classes can help you reach your fitness goals. The workout targets some of the body’s largest calorie-burning muscles and is low impact, so it’s not strenuous on your joints. Our classes are challenging but attainable for women and men of all shapes, sizes, ages and fitness levels. Instructors will give modifications throughout the class so that everyone can feel comfortable.

How often should I take barre classes?

This question depends a lot on your personal goals. Do you want to lose weight? Are you an athlete who is cross training? Do you want to want to build strength? We are happy to discuss these individual goals to help you reach them. In general, clients who attend 3-5 classes per week begin seeing results in just a few weeks. Of course, the best results will come from supplementing your barre classes with a healthy diet and cardiovascular exercises like walking, running or swimming.

Can I take barre classes if I’m pregnant?

Yes, barre is a low-impact workout, and we can offer modifications to help you exercise safely throughout your pregnancy. We do request a doctor’s consent. If you are new to barre, it may be best to wait until after your pregnancy.
